About Us

Lamsdorf Remembered is the result of the publication of a book by Arthur Evans CBE, Sojourn in Silesia, in which he recounted his experiences of his time, between 1940 and 1945, in the prisoner-of-war camp, Stalag VIIIB.

Thousands of young men were incarcerated in Stalag VIIIB, in Lamsdorf, by the Germans during World War 2. Some of them were there for years, and accounts of how they coped, which you can read on this website, are probably among the greatest rites of passage stories ever told.

The book caused such interest, mainly among the children and grandchildren of the former inmates of Stalag VIIIB in Lamsdorf, that a website was set up in 2004, called Lamsdorf Reunited, to record all their stories and to display all their photographs of their relatives time in the camp.

These days, we are unable to post any more of these stories or photographs. But we hope you will benefit from looking at them, and learning more about what it was like to be in Stalag VIIB during World War 2.
